Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest is a major tourist attraction in southern Germany and you should absolutely consider a visit. But, the logistics of getting here can be a bit confusing. To help, I’ve got this list of the top Eagle’s Nest tours to take because why hassle with all the logistics when you don’t have to?
Given its location, you can visit the Eagle’s Nest from either Munich, Salzburg, or even locally from Berchtesgaden. This post covers the best tours from all three of these starting points. Enjoy!

Why book an Eagle’s Nest tour?
There are a few great reasons to opt for an Eagle’s Nest tour rather than trying to navigate it all yourself. Those include:

Choosing the best Eagle’s Nest tours
I haven’t taken all the tours on this list, but I do plan travel (especially WWII-centered travel) for a living. I have a keen sense of what the average Eagle’s Nest visitor wants from an organized tour. To create this list, I’ve compared the many available tours against my strict set of criteria, including:
As far as my recommendations go, I would never recommend any tour that has less than a 4-star rating or any that are offered by a company that looks less-than-reputable. As always, I only recommend tours I would personally book for myself. (And I’m a hard sell.)
Pro tip: Keep in mind the Eagle’s Nest is only open from May to October each year. (The exact opening and closing dates may change dependent on weather conditions.) If your goal is to visit the Eagle’s Nest, do not book a tour before May or after October. Check the official website for the exact dates if you plan to travel in either May or October. The opening date for 2026 is May 7.

About these tours
I’ve separated the available tours into three sections:
All tours listed on this page are offered in English and all prices quoted are listed in either euros or US dollars. (Though the exchange rate can vary depending on the day.)
Important note: Only two of the Eagle’s Nest tours mentioned on this page include the cost of the mandatory Eagle’s Nest bus to the top. For all others, you’ll also need to purchase a ticket on the bus that goes from Obersalzberg to the top of the mountain (the actual Eagle’s Nest). As of March 2026, the cost for one roundtrip adult ticket is €31.90. Your tour guide should be able to help you with the process.

My favorite day tour companies
The two tour companies I always turn to for great day tours and fun local activities are Viator and Get Your Guide. I’ve used them both many times and always have good experiences. They’re both well-known and well-liked in the travel industry. They’re both easy to book with and offer free cancelation on most tours.
For longer “day trips” that involve more driving and destinations, my go-to is DayTrip.com. They offer quality private day trip experiences, city-to-city transfers, and even by-the-hour driver hires.
So, let’s get to the tours! All things considered, these are my choices for the best Eagle’s Nest tours in 2026.

Best Eagle’s Nest tours from Munich
In this section, I’ll dig into the details of what makes each tour stand out. I’ll tell you why I picked them, what they include (and what they don’t), and more. But first, here’s the quick list of my picks for the 4 best Eagle’s Nest tours from Munich:
- Best Overall: Munich to Berchtesgaden & Schonau am Königssee with DayTrip.com
- Most Popular: From Munich: Guided Group Tour to Eagle’s Nest
- Best Budget Tour: Berchtesgaden and Eagle’s Nest Day Trip from Munich with Viator
- Best Private Tour: Munich to Berchtesgaden & Schonau am Königssee with DayTrip.com
Now let’s dig deeper into why I picked each of these Eagle’s Nest tours + all the details.
Check out this post for more of the best day trips from Munich.

1. Munich to Eagle’s Nest: Best Overall
My pick for best overall: Munich to Berchtesgaden & Schonau am Königssee with DayTrip.com
Without a doubt, my pick for the absolute best Eagle’s Nest day tour from Munich is this one, for several reasons:
- This is a private tour for just you/your group which means you have full control over where you go and how long you spend at each site.
- The price is hundreds of dollars less than the other options.
- The quality of service from DayTrip is top-notch.
This tour (as-is) includes visits to the Eagle’s Nest and the beautiful Königssee lake, but can be customized any way you like. This means you should be able to sub a visit to the Documentation Obersalzerg for the lake visit if you so choose. This tour also boasts stops at some hidden gems along the way.
For more on visiting Königssee, check out my (non-WWII) guide to visiting Berchtesgaden.

What this tour includes
This full-day, roundtrip day tour includes:
- Private vehicle and professional driver of your own
- Pickup and drop-off at your hotel or any other location you choose
- Insider tips and personalized service every step of the way
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your trip
It does not include the Eagle’s Nest bus ticket (as previously mentioned), meals, and gratuity. (Again, none of the tours do.)
Tour cost
As of March 2026, this tour is offered seven days a week and costs just €178 per person. (All the other similar private tours cost upwards of $436 per person.) Given the cost of all the other tours I’ve found that don’t offer such impeccable service, this is hands-down the best deal there is. I would absolutely book this tour myself.

2. Most Popular Munich to Eagle’s Nest tour
The most popular Eagle’s Nest tour from Munich: Guided Group Tour to Eagle’s Nest
With hundreds of reviews and still nearly a 5-star rating, this tour is the obvious winner for most popular. Some of the reasons this one is so popular include:
- It’s a small group tour – Most of the others have a maximum of 50+ travelers (not ideal) but this one keeps the groups small for a better overall experience.
- Includes hotel pick-up and drop-off
- Includes free time in Berchtesgaden and for the Documentation Center
- Reviewers absolutely loved the enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly guides. Really, all the rave reviews are about the guides!
Tour cost
As of March 2026, this tour is offered seven days a week (from June to September) and costs $173 per person. While this is more than the average Eagle’s Nest tour, there is consider value in the fact that this is not a busload of 50+ people. That, in my opinion, is absolutely worth paying more for.
Check availability and book this tour here.

3. Best Budget Eagle’s Nest day tour from Munich
My pick for best budget tour: Berchtesgaden and Eagle’s Nest Day Trip from Munich with Viator
If the first two tour options are out of your price range, don’t worry; there are several more options that are more affordable. This tour includes much of the same stuff as the previous tours: roundtrip transportation, a professional driver, and free time to explore the area. But where it excels (and why I picked it for the best budget option) is in the reviews.
It has nearly a 5-star rating after hundreds of reviews and almost all of them brag on how amazing their tour guides were. Additionally, this tour has been great at improvising with other activities on days that the weather has prevented the trip up the mountain. Rest assured that should you happen to travel on a bad-weather day, you’ll still be able to see a lot of the area.

Tour cost
As of March 2026, this tour is offered 7 days a week and costs just $76.23 per person. This is a fantastic budget option for this full-day, roundtrip tour. The only consolation is that this tour has a max capacity of 50 people. I truly hate traveling with such big groups, but according the reviews it’s absolutely worth it in the long run.
Check availability and book your tour here.
If this one is fully booked on your preferred date(s), here are a few more similar options to check out:

4. Best Private Munich to Eagle’s Nest Tour
My pick for best private tour: Munich to Berchtesgaden & Schonau am Königssee with DayTrip.com
Yes, this is the same tour I mentioned as “Best Overall” but I can’t help myself. I’m just really into this tour given you get all the perks of a private tour but at a fraction of the cost of the other available options.
If you look at the other available private options–like this one, this one, or this one–they all offer a similar experience but the prices start at $463 per person and go up to $850. No thank you. I’d book the one from DayTrip.com without hesitation.

Best Eagle’s Nest tours from Salzburg
Even though “Austria” sounds like it’s far away, Salzburg is only a 30-min drive from the Eagle’s Nest bus stop. In fact, visiting the Eagle’s Nest is often listed as one of the “best things to do in Salzburg”; that’s how close it is. You can even see Salzburg Fortress from the top of the Eagle’s Nest on a clear day!
To visit the Eagle’s Nest from Salzburg, you could easily hop on the local bus or even drive over if you have your own rental car. Or, you can simply book yourself a spot on a tour and let someone else handle it all for you.
Like before, I’ll give a few details on each of these below and why I chose them. But first, here’s the quick list of my picks for the 3 best Eagle’s Nest tours from Salzburg, Austria:
- Most Popular: Skip-the-Line: Eagle’s Nest in Berchtesgaden Tour from Salzburg
- Best Private Tour: Private Eagle’s Nest and King’s Lake Tour from Salzburg
- Best One-Way Tour (Salzburg > Munich): Private Driver from Salzburg to Munich with Eagle’s Nest Stop

1. Most Popular Salzburg Eagle’s Nest Tour
The most popular Salzburg to Eagle’s Nest tour: Skip-the-Line: Eagle’s Nest in Berchtesgaden Tour from Salzburg
With over 1,450 rave reviews, this tour is by far the most popular option for visiting the Eagle’s Nest from Salzburg. Reviewers love the entertaining and knowledgeable guides and driver and many comment on how well-organized the whole experience is.
This 4.5-hour tour includes roundtrip transportation, your mandatory Eagle’s Nest bus ticket, and free time at the Eagle’s Nest as well as down in Berchtesgaden. It does not include hotel pickup/drop-off, meals, and gratuities.
It has a max capacity of 50 travelers and only includes 50 minutes at the top of the Eagle’s Nest, neither of which are ideal, but if you don’t plan on eating at the restaurant, you’ll be fine. (Though you probably do have time for a beer if you pay as soon as they drop it off.)

Tour cost
This tour is offered 7 days a week and costs $121 per person and this is the best Salzburg > Eagle’s Nest deal I could find. (Why it costs more than the tours from Munich which is 2 hours away beats the hell out of me.)
The main thing to remember here is that this price already includes the mandatory Eagle’s Nest bus ticket up and down the mountain which, as of publishing, costs €32. So that’s something. (This tour is also listed on Viator but for a couple of dollars more.)

2. Best private Salzburg Eagle’s Nest tour
My pick for best private tour: Private Eagle’s Nest and King’s Lake Tour from Salzburg
The options for private Eagle’s Nest tours from Salzburg are slim, but this one is pretty good. Given that it’s a private tour, that means you’ll get hotel pickup and drop-off as well as the ability to customize your tour to your liking.
Out of the box, it includes a stop at the Eagle’s Nest (two whole hours!) and some more time in and around Berchtesgaden. (Though I would argue for some time at the Documentation Obersalzberg instead, but that’s just me.) It does not include the cost of the Eagle’s Nest bus (€32) which is just silly in my opinion, but it is what it is.
It has a 5-star rating and reviewers love the considerate and accommodating guides and felt they got to see so much great stuff.
Tour cost
As of March 2026, this tour is offered 7 days a week and costs $762.33 per group up to 7 people. The bigger your group, the cheaper it will be for everyone. Even if you only have two people, it’ll still cost less per person than any of the other private options. (Actually, even if you’re traveling solo, this is still the cheapest private option, sadly.)
Check availability and book this tour here.

3. Best One-Way Salzburg > Munich Option
Your best one-way tour option: Private Driver from Salzburg to Munich with Eagle’s Nest Stop
This is pretty niche, but if you’re looking for a private trip to the Eagle’s Nest from Salzburg that then ends in Munich, this is the tour for you. Traveling between Salzburg and Munich is pretty common so this eliminates any need for confusing train schedules or car rentals. It’s not cheap, but it works.
As described, this tour includes a private, one-way transfer from Salzburg to Munich with a 3-hour stop at the Eagle’s Nest along the way. It includes hotel pickup and drop-off but not the cost of the Eagle’s Nest bus ticket.
Tour cost
As of March 2026, this tour (if you want to call it that) has a maximum of 8 people and the cost depends on how many people in your group. Again, the more people in your group, the cheaper it will be. For two people it costs $370 per person, but for 8 people it costs just $111 per person.

The best local Eagle’s Nest tours
The following are 2 of the best tour options if you’re already in Berchtesgaden (either staying here already or are able to get your own transportation here). Here’s the quick list:
- Most Unique Eagle’s Nest Tour: Eagle’s Nest Hiking Tour
- Best Guided Tour (non-hiking): WWII Historical Eagle’s Nest Tour in Berchtesgaden Germany

1. Most Unique Eagle’s Nest Tour
My pick for most unique Eagle’s Nest tour: Eagle’s Nest Hiking Tour
I personally took this hiking tour up to the Eagle’s Nest in September 2023 and it remains one of my favorite travel experiences ever. The guide Claudio is an absolute gem and he’s so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.
This tour is for people who want to visit the Eagle’s Nest a little differently than everyone else and who want to see all the hidden stuff on the way up. You’ll start at the Obersalzberg (where the bus picks everyone up) and then hike up to the top.
Along the way, your guide will take you to hidden ruins in the woods like Hitler’s former house and office, the remains of Hermann Göring’s house, tons of hidden bunkers, and much more. To say this was thrilling as a WWII historian is an understatement.

If you want to read more about this experience, I wrote a whole post on it which you can read here: Hike to the Eagle’s Nest: 11 Reasons to Skip the Bus in Berchtesgaden. Just know that I can’t recommend this tour enough if you’re moderately physically fit and have some extra time to spend here.
Tour cost
As of March 2026, this 5/6-hour tour costs $233.39 per person and I mean it when I say it’s worth every penny. This is, without a doubt, the most unique way to visit this historical site.
Check availability and book this tour here.

2. Best Guided Tour (non-hiking)
My pick for best guided tour (non-hiking): WWII Historical Eagle’s Nest Tour in Berchtesgaden Germany
On this 3-hour tour you’ll get to explore the Eagle’s Nest with an accredited WWII historical guide who can tell you all about the significance of this building and much more. This is a much better way to see it than just roaming about freely with no clue of what makes this area significant.
It also includes the cost of the Eagle’s Nest bus which is a rarity. It has a max group size of 20 which isn’t a small group but isn’t outrageous either. (And that’s only if 19 other people actually book at the same time as you.)
Tour cost
As of March 2026, this tour costs $80 per person. Given that this includes the €32 Eagle’s Nest bus ticket, this is a fantastic deal and better than most other tour offerings.
